Name of Layout California Industrial Park

This layout depicts an early 1970s era industrial park surrounded by mountains, hills and forests which can be found in both Northern and Southern California, especially in the eastern part of the state.
This layout depicts an early 1970s era industrial park and includes an oil refinery complex, passenger and freight depot, gas station, warehouse, cement plant and gravel yard, a small rail yard, overhead crane, train maintenance facilities and engine house, fire department, a truck-rail loading/unloading facility and a heavy construction equipment rental company surrounded by mountains, hills and forests which can be found in both Northern and Southern California, especially in the eastern part of the state. Several of the buildings and the billboard advertising were customized to reflect the locale and time frame. Decals, advertising signs and billboards from the appropriate era were found on the internet, scanned into my computer and scaled to the appropriate size using Adobe Photoshop.
We used backdrops from BackDrop Warehouse       Member - BackDrop Warehouse Customers

The backdrop may look washed out but this is due to lighting used for photography. Visually it is much darker. (note from BDWH)

The layout is 105 square feet and is configured in an "L" shape...9' x 5' and 10' x 6'. There are three main lines connected by switches which allow trains to be switched to and from each track. Two tracks follow the "L" shape of the layout and the inner track is an 11' oval. The rear outer straight track is elevated. Two sidings run off the inside track to the rail yard and train maintenance facilities. A third siding at the front of the layout permits the easy placement or removal of engines and cars on the layout.

I found the road signs on the internet, scanned them and reduced them to HO scale using Adobe Photoshop. The operating street lights and many of the motor vehicles were obtained thru Ebay from vendors in China. Street dividing lines were made with colored art pencils. The scenery is made primarily by Timberlake and Woodland Scenics. Some of the vehicles and figures are also by Woodland Scenics. Most of the vehicles, billboards and figures are made by Model Power...as is the street signal. Other billboards and some buildings are made by Pikestuff. Most of the buildings are made by Walthers Cornerstone and adapted to the layout theme and era as approproate. The operating RR signals are made by Circuitron.
