Name of Layout SummersCandLrailroad

The layout began after I became disabled in a 15 x 30 room my son made for me in his warehouse. Several years ago I made a small layout for my grandson for Christmas. After Christmas I began another layout for my own enjoyment. When my son gave me this room he wanted me to incorporate both layouts into one big layout. This was just a design from my imagination that takes some ideas from my past experiences and places where I lived. I grew up in PA and lived in NY. The town is a town we lived in in NY. The mountains on the backdrops remind me of the mountains in NY and PA.

I made some models from Walthers during recovering from open-heart surgery and these are the different major scenes I incorporated in the total layout. I hope you enjoy the pictures from the C an L Railroad.

During the construction of the layout I covered the background with sheetrock and curved the corners with sheetrock that was wet down and then installed. The whole room was painted blue, even the ceiling. My sister-in-law began painting the backdrops and then decided that she could not get the effect she wanted. She saw on the internet the web page for these beautiful backdrops from www.backdropwarehouse.com. I was looking for the Eastern mountain look and the backdrops from backdropwarehouse fit the bill. I used the more permanent paste from Shermin Williams that is recommended on their instalation page. I also used the rubber glue they recommend to overlap the two scenes. It went together very well. We only had a little trouble on the curves but we got it worked out and the results to me went beyond our expectation. The only things I recommend is that you put the backdrops in before you begin the layout. It will be a lot easier if you don't have to craw on top of a table that already has track laid. Other than those two instances I am totally satisfied with the backdrops.

The backdrop may look washed out but this is due to lighting used for photography. Visually it is much darker. (note from BDWH)

One of the neatest things about the backdrops from backdrop warehouse is the beautiful photographs you can take of your layout. You can see the before pictures and the after pictures. It is totally fun trying to take pictures that look realistic.

I will be adding pictures as I get the layout further completed. If you ever get to Alabama feel free to call me if you want to see the layout in person. I have no problem having folks come by and would enjoy the fellowship of any fellow model railroader.
