Moggollon Mining and Timber co. is an operating railroad museum in the present day, Northern Az. high country. The timber and minerals- manganese and onyx- are cut and mined with modern equipment. However they are then reloaded on railcars and eased down the mountain to the lumber mill near Meteor Crater and the BNSF interchange at Canyon Diablo. Geared and articulated locos still rule the road and the steam powered tourist trains take railfans out to see it all on 100 plus miles of trackage. For over 80 yrs. various logging RRs operated in the vast Ponderosa Pine Forests of Northern Az.. The last Log train into the Flagstaff Mill was pulled by steam on 8/17/1966, my Granddad Eddy Eyrich was firing The little 1911 2-8-0 (The 2Spot) that had spent her entire life pulling and pushing God alone knows how many millions of board feet of Timber into the various mills she served in Flagstaff. She's now on Display Downtown on Rte.66.(My 2Spot is a close replica of how the real 2spot looked around 1950. I started with an inexpensive 0-8-0.) The railways I chose were the Canadian National / Canadian Pacific Railways. The setting is the Montreal to Ottawa route, in the 1959 era when steam and diesel shared the rails. The layout is 10 / 12 x 23ft, maximum 2 1/2% grade and #6 and #8 mainline turnouts and features a harbour, passenger station, small yard, industrial section, downtown area with running trolleys and a staging area in the computer room. There is over 500 ft of track and 300 ft of mainline. Being tall, I chose to have the top of the main benchwork start at 50" above the floor with the second level at 54". The industry and the downtown areas are at 57".

I jokingly put the blame on my wife (Kris) for starting this phobia with the trains when she bought me a wonderful little Rivarossi Heisler Engine for my birthday June of 03 Shortly after that my Cousin Gene Jones came along with all these ideas & knowledge to share,as well as he has given me some very nice little brass engines such as the 2-6-0 , 4-6-2 , 4-6-0 , 0-6-0 , the 2-6-6-2 ,4-8-2 and the little union pacific switcher of which all these can be seen in various pictures , my oldest son Mike has bought quite a few things for the layout as well, and it's been total addiction since. The one thing I told my self from the beginning is model R.R. is like most other activities,It can become competative,One should always appreciate the level they are at, and not put down others R.R. as for it all starts as a pastime or hobby, and if one looks hard enough you can find fault with any layout; Or, even a good idea you can apply to your own :) Most important; Just have fun. ( 1-13-08 ) I would like to say Thank You to all those who have contacted me and allowed me the privelege of sharing with them what my cousin Gene has shared with me. And which has drawn me so deep into the wonderful hobby of model Rail Roading. I hope that I will always be able to have something to share and Pay Forward with others. I would also like to say Thank You to Reb Stout for allowing me to continuously add pages to his site. May every one have fun and enjoy this hobby as much as I do !!!

The Susquehanna Valley and Gulf Summit Railway was begun about two years ago. While the SVGS is not my dream layout, I wanted to create something with a variety of visual settings that would allow for creativity and realistic visual detail. Hence, I’ve created a rather fanciful and fictional layout that incorporates structural and street lighting that automatically come on when the room lighting is turned off, traffic lights that automatically change in the town of Summit, and automatic sound effects (i.e., diesel horn when a train passes over a section of track, running water of the Susquehanna River, birds chirping over the daytime landscape, crickets chirping over the night time landscape, a flickering, raging fire in a burning building with fire engine sirens in the distance, a grade crossing bell and the clickety-clack of wheels, and an automatic station stop in Susquehanna with a customized automatic boarding announcement—“The Susquehanna Valley and Gulf Summit Express now boarding. All Aboard!” For the transitional lighting from day to night, I used an optical sensing power pack designed for use on garden pathway lights.

Well I guess this is going to be obvious as to what my next structure will be. I have been razzed heavily by one who has become a very good friend to my cousin Gene and I after him making contact with us and having some rail roading questions. Him being a retired fire chief in New Hampton he has noticed the absence of a fire service and has not let me ignore it so this one is for you Jerry. Here I have purchased a 1928 Arhens Fire truck kit (Made by Jordan) that Gene added to his order at walthers, It took me a few days or more to assemble it but well worth the time. So now I guess the Highlands needs a fire station. I just have to find one that strikes my fancy and then away we go again.

The name of the Rail Road is , “Qnincy and Diamond Rail Road” It is a free lance Rail Road. It gives me liberty to added what I want as I build my empire. As you can see it is far from being completed. I have been working on it now for about three and a half years in my spare time. The mountains are made from plaster cloth and paper dipped in plaster. The rocks and out cropping are made from plaster casting. I have to stick with 18 inch radius turns because of my space. It is limiting me to shorter cars and smaller engines. I use the code 100 flex track for much of the layout with cork road bed. Later I plan to ballast my road. Note the slot car track going through the town. This is also “Ho” scale. It gives added fun to the layout. (My own Grand Prix Race) I hope that you enjoy the slide presentation.

Dalton City Railroad is a freelance HO model railroad layout of modern times in an old city. Old fashion values are still prevalent in this community. This is a simulated city near the Appalachian Mountains where children are safe to walk to the park or maybe to the corner drug store to visit the candy counter. Neighbors are friendly and cops still walk the beat. The large chain stores have chosen to stay downtown vs. moving to a suburban mall. Many beautiful apartments are well maintained above of the downtown businesses. So stop in town for a visit. Watch the firemen put out a townhouse fire. Perhaps you'll stop in at Nikki's Espresso Pub for a cappuccino on the outdoor patio or take a stroll in downtown and shop. Hope you enjoy viewing the photos.

This is another of what will be many projects on the layout where I will be going back and either adding something new or tearing out and re-doing what was there trying to achieve a more detailed appearance. Un-fortunately I have reached the point to where re-doing and or trying to better the detail is all I have left to do as for I have no room to expand anymore and there is no room remaining on the layout to add track. But there is alot of things that can be done over. As I said in the begining it's only done when you are. Enjoy the hobby and always keep looking for something else to do. :)

This layout is a one man operation. It is built on 40 4'X8' tables, framed with 2X4, using wood paneling as the table tops. When completed it will be running about 30 different sets of trains. I am more into the scenery than complicated configurations of trains and track, so I won't be using many turnouts, etc. Most of my trees are scratch built, using twigs and weeds I find outdoors. My mountains consist of chicken wire, old bed sheets, paper towels and elmers glue. I design lots of details such as the tombstones in my "cemetery", carnival booths, billboards, sign work, and the "tote board" on my racetrack on my computer.

Greetings & Welcome to the MOTOWN EXPRESS RAILROAD. Here in Motown my daughter & I collect and model Lionel O-Scale & G-Scale trains. Our Railroad consist of passenger & freight services & our favorite railroad is the "DT&I" (DETROIT TOLEDO & IRONTON). On our layout you would see Lionel Scale engines consisting of Hudson's, Mohawks, Diesel A-B-A F3 combos, GP-9 & GP-7 lash-ups. A lot of the freight cars and engines you see are CuStOm airbrushed and weathered as to the prototype. Penn Central, Ann Arbor, New York Central, Port Huron & Detroit, Detroit & Toledo Shoreline, Conrail, & Grand Trunk are just a few of the road names you would see on the line. *****The RAILROAD***** Has 5 main lines with sidings, a switching yard, and a raised trolley service that travels through the DETROIT Motor City Skyline. Their are (12) O-72 powered switches, 2,800 feet of 12 gauge wire running the trains, buildings, street lights, and accessories. The Trains run off of (3) 275 watt Lionel ZW transformers, and everything else runs off of (7) 1033 Lionel Transformers & (1) MTH Z-4000 Transformer. The entire layout is Train Master Command Control,(Or MTH DCS) consisting of (6) power masters, (1) Command base,(1) Lionel Transmitter, & (1) lazy-boy chair to operate the entire layout from, hahaha....

I am going to go back and try to take all the same photos taken in my Highlander main page using the backdrop from Back Drop Warehouse to show the difference from the black and whites I used in most of my shots and the effects that Back Drop Warehouse color photos create. Thanx again Back Drop Warehouse and those who voted. The Highlander.

I think Back Drop Ware House probably has a back drop for most any bodies layout. It took me quite awhile going back and forth from several of the fantastic sceneries available to end up with the one I did. My layout required the rolling hills in the fore ground with some just right size trees up front for trackside effect and still the high rugged mountians in the back ground to give the effect of my lay out up in the mountians. Back Drop Warehouse had the one I needed.

Well for this project I am going to create a firewood area. I have a couple of wood burners running the rails and there was no where they refueled. So I looked around for an area to fit a fueling station and came up with this. Then I was going to create a dump site for logs. But then thought it would be fun to retrofit my crane. At first was just going to use a lifting sling as in the Grizzly Ridge Logging scenario but then thought it would be more fun to create some grapples that functioned. So here we go. Well it has been along time since been able to do anything on the layout as for I have changed what I am doing at work. Has kept me really busy working about 65 to 70 hours every 5 to 6 days and around 2500 to 3000 miles driving line now days. Got a little time this weekend. Wow finally spent some time on the layout. First time since last April. Started on some steps leading from the Mill Valley Station to the switch station above the Grizley Ridge logging. Got some pictures.

So you are thinking of purchasing some Backdrop Warehouse (BDW) Backdrops. Been there, done that. Yes, I worried, thought all of the negatives, and had some sleepless nights. But, now that I have purchased 9 backdrops and have them all hung, and they are straight, with very few wrinkles, I found that the experience was wonderful. The process was better than I ever thought it could be.

In fact, I have had other issues with this layout that were far worse than hanging these backdrops. I believe that painting the ceiling joists solid flat black was the worst part of building my layout.

Like all other layouts, my layout is very unique. You see, I started with my layout that is 13’ x 17’ and like any other American male, I found that I needed more space. I built my layout in my John Deere room that is under one corner of our home. Our home is strictly a one level home and has no basement. But, it did have a rather large crawl space that had possibilities. So, for a little over 2 years, I dug the crawl space out, or as my wife, Louanna, says, I mined it out. In the Missouri Ozarks we have a lot of limestone and very little dirt. Yes, I dug out my crawl space and now have an additional 46’ x 29’ area for a nice addition to the present layout.

Before I go any farther, I need to let you know that I did consult with an area architect and also several general contractors on the process of converting this crawl space to a workable layout area. All of these folks were very informative and thought that I was a little crazy. I told everyone that I was acting like a 12 year old that was digging his way out of jail.
